THE EFL have confirmed the refereeing appointments for this weekend's Championship playoff final between Leeds United and Saints.

Premier League referee John Brooks will take the match at Wembley Stadium, just a week after officiating Man City's successful final-day title defence.

Brooks is also a UEFA referee, taking charge of European Championship qualifying and Europa Conference League matches this season.

He oversaw the match between Saints and Leeds at St Mary's earlier this season, in which Russell Martin's side were 3-1 winners.

VAR is in operation at Wembley, with Australian official Jarred Gillet in charge, with the help of an assistant, at Stockley Park.

Saints take on Leeds for the final place in next season's Premier League on Sunday, May 26, with kick-off in the capital from 3pm.

Here is the full list of official appointments, as confirmed by the EFL...

Referee: John Brooks.

Assistant referees: Simon Bennett & Dan Robathan.

Fourth official: Tony Harrington.

Reserve assistant referee: Akil Howson.

VAR: Jarred Gillett.

Assistant VAR: Darren Cann.

Brooks has handed out 134 yellow cards and six red cards in 33 matches across all competitions this season.

In February, Brooks was taken off VAR duty by PGMOL chief Howard Webb after denying Brighton a legitimate goal against Crystal Palace.

He drew the offside lines in the wrong place and was taken off the upcoming Merseyside derby and Arsenal versus Man City game.

The match between Saints and Leeds earlier this season is the only Championship fixture Brooks has taken in the 2023/24 campaign.
