LEGENDARY manager Neil Warnock praised Russell Martin for getting the most out of Ryan Fraser and turning him into a strong defensive player.
Fraser was clapped off by Saints supporters inside Wembley after what was, for now, his final appearance for the club.
The Daily Echo understands that Southampton are set to go in for the former Scotland international on a permanent basis.
Fraser has played 1,891 minutes across 44 games in all competitions during his loan spell at St Mary's, most recently playing as a left wing-back.
Speaking on Sky Sports, veteran boss Warnock asked Martin how he has transformed Fraser into a defensive asset.
He said: "I thought you fully justified it today. I love Ryan Fraser. I don't know how you got him tackling like that."
Martin responded: "Me, him and Matt Ritchie had many an evening in the Scotland squad where we would usually end up wrestling or fighting on some level.
"I know he's strong. I know he's aggressive. People questioned why we signed Wee Man.
"I knew him so well as a teammate and he has had a really tough couple of seasons. He has been incredible for us.
"Not just with his performances but in training every day, the way he is has been amazing."
