FORMER Saints players have taken to social media to congratulate the club on achieving promotion back to the Premier League.

Adam Armstrong's goal at Wembley saw Russell Martin's side beat Leeds United 1-0 in the Championship playoff final.

Club hero Matt Le Tissier wrote: "Sorry Pompey but you’re gonna have to try a bit harder if you want some derbies."

Former defender Radhi Jaidi said: "Congratulations Southampton. Very pleased for everyone at the club. I'm glad the club is returning to where it belongs. Shoutout to Jack Stephens. What a leader!"

Franny Benali posted: "WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!" alongside a video of his emotional reaction to the full-time whistle."

Rickie Lambert, who has also tasted promotion with Saints, said: "GET IN THERE!!! What a performance from the lads! Controlled start to finish and made Leeds look average! The Saints are back where they belong!"
