SAINTS defender Jan Bednarek has been named in Poland's 29-man preliminary squad ahead of this summer's European Championship.

The 28 year old played a full 90 minutes at Wembley Stadium on Sunday as Russell Martin's side won promotion via a 1-0 win over Leeds United.

Bednarek will now set his sights on Euro 2024 with Poland, who qualified via the playoffs with a win against Wales on penalties.

Speaking to the Daily Echo at the start of the year, Bednarek outlined that his two ambitions this year were to help Southampton return to the Premier League and qualify for the Euros with Poland.

His country have been drawn in Group D alongside 2022 World Cup finalists France, Ronald Koeman's Netherlands and Ralf Rangnick’s Austria.

In other international news, David Brooks has missed out on the Wales squad having dislocated his shoulder in the win against Leeds United.

Wembley hero Will Smallbone, who set up Adam Armstrong's winner,  has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad.

Injured goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu is an obvious omission from interim boss John O'Shea's squad. Ryan Manning has also missed out.

Winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who was an unused player during the playoff campaign, has been recalled by Ghana.
