LOANEE David Brooks admitted he will be grateful to Southampton and Russell Martin "for the rest" of his life following the club's promotion.

Brooks arrived at St Mary's in January in search of more game time having only played 273 minutes in the Premier League for AFC Bournemouth.

The Wales international started 13 times for Russell Martin's side - including their Championship playoff final victory over Leeds United.

However, Brooks' afternoon at Wembley was cut short when he dislocated his shoulder following an awkward landing.

Andoni Iraola has already stated his intention to assess the 26 year old's future at the Cherries during pre-season.

Asked if he has enjoyed his brief but successful spell at Southampton, which saw him score twice and provide six assists, Brooks voiced his gratitude to the club.

He told the Daily Echo: “The main reason why I came here was to have a day like this. I am going to thoroughly enjoy it.

“The boys have worked hard, tirelessly all year. They deserve it more than me. I’ve come in and added to the group of very good players.

“I am delighted for them and I’m sure they will enjoy it as well. I’ve very much enjoyed it (at Saints).

“I’ve said in multiple interviews that Russell has been fantastic for bringing me in and giving me the opportunity to play.

“All the lads have been fantastic. I can’t speak highly enough of Southampton as a football club.

“I will be very grateful to him (Martin) for the rest of my life.”
