THE Championship play-off final between Leeds United and Saints was the best attended since 2014, the EFL has revealed.

The official attendance at Wembley Stadium was recorded as 85,862, with Saints selling 36,900 tickets.

Leeds sold slightly fewer tickets - 36,500 - while the rest of the attendance was made up by corporate and hospitality entries.

The match was the highest attendance for a Championship play-off final since 2014 when 87,348 watched QPR vs Derby County.

Only in 2014, 2011 and 2008 have they seen a bigger attendance for the match than this season.

Both Saints and Leeds sold out their full allocations days before the fixture took place, on Sunday, May 26.

The EFL revealed that the total attendance for the Championship, League One and League Two play-off finals was 189,675.

Sky Sports reached a peak viewership of 3.6million during the Championship play-off final, which Adam Armstrong's solitary goal settled.

The three play-off final fixtures were broadcast to 186 countries overseas, ahead of a new EFL TV rights deal coming into force next season.
