SUPPORTERS have had their say on Adam Lallana's return to Southampton following the announcement of his arrival.

While some supporters are pleased to see Russell Martin's side make an early move to reinforce the midfield with experience, others are still frustrated by the way he left the club.

Lallana, 36, has signed a one-year deal at Southampton ahead of their return to the Premier League. He joins having featured 25 times in the top flight for Brighton last season.

Here is how you have been reacting across social media...

Chris Moulsdale wrote: "He's not going to be a marquee signing but he will do a job. Great prem experience and will be great for the younger players."

James Gould added: "Welcome home Adam, it will be great to see you back in the red and white stripes again."

David Marshall said: "Great squad addition, plus his coaching experience at Brighton. Yes, he left under a cloud, but he will want to prove himself again and finish off a great career."

Christopher Curtis said: "Oh dear not a great start to life back in the Prem, surely his wages would have been better spent elsewhere, I can see shades of Walcott about this, do we never learn."

Stave Morrison surmised: "He'll do a job as a part replacement for Stuart Armstrong, carrying the ball up the pitch.

"Legs won't last 90 so more recruitment is needed in the midfield. Good addition to the academy backroom in due course. Water under the bridge is needed from the fans."

John Birkett added: "This is typical Southampton, a step back, not a step forward..."

Robert Gladstone said: "So we let Stuart Armstrong go and replace with Adam Lallana. He will just sit on the bench like he did at Brighton. A poor signing IMO."

Mike and Mandy Duncan said: "Lallana will be a good signing for experience and help youth players develop into quality footballers. Southampton FC needs to start looking at decent players that can play Premiership football between the age of 20-30."

Sid Snott added: "Oh dear, as long as he's just a cup games player and no league games as he's well past his best."

Martin Sanders wrote: "A valuable addition with Premier League experience, perfect for our younger players to learn from. He has played with the best and under the best. A tidy bit of business from the club."

@ricksaints76 said: "Good signing for us,the experience he has will help the young lads and good replacement for Stuart Armstrong."

@upthesaints disagreed, saying: "Nope, not happy and the club have failed to do their homework. Financial strings are very tight and somehow we need a good four/five PL standard players."

@AlexReading91 wrote: "Really torn on this. Taking all the history out of it and it seems a good football decision for the experience around the squad.

"But for me, it does leave a bit of a sour taste and it feels a bit tone-deaf from the club when there’s a renewed togetherness… we shall see."
