ENGLAND youth international Ella Morris will depart Southampton FC Women this summer to take the next step in her career, the club have confirmed.

With her current deal set to expire, and an offer of re-engagement unable to be agreed, Morris will leave the club after rising through the ranks over the last seven years.

She joined the club at 14 years old and progressed on and off the pitch to become a key part of the club's journey to the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Since making her first team debut in the 2018/19 season, stepping up from the under-16s, Morris recorded 117 appearances for the club and scored 14 goals in that time.

She was also named the 2019/20 Women’s Player of the Season and Player's Player of the Season after her first full campaign in the senior team.

Morris has been a regular for England at under-23 level over the past season alongside Saints teammates Kayla Rendell, Lucia Kendell and Molly Pike.

In a statement on social media, Morris wrote: "At the conclusion of the season, and after a lot of thought and consideration, I informed Saints of my decision to leave the club.

"It was a tough decision to make, but one I believe comes at the right time for me and my future career.

"Thank you to the staff who've impacted my journey, from Hampshire FA as a six year old, to the Saints Academy and then the first team.

"To all my teammates through the years - a huge thank you for everything I've learnt from each of you.

"Another big thank you to all the fans who have supported me and the team through the journey, it's always been appreciated.

"From growing up as a fan, to reaching over 100 appearances and climbing the leagues, it's been a dream to play for my club.

"I am excited for my next chapter and looking forward to the challenges ahead. Forecer a Saints fan."

Director of women’s football, Marieanne Spacey-Cale, explained: “Whilst we are of course disappointed to lose Ella this summer, we wish her all the best in an exciting next step for her career.

“As a club we are proud to have played such a big part in her journey alongside our progression, and it’s been fantastic to watch her develop into a professional footballer and regular international in England’s youth age groups.”

A statement via the club's website added: "Southampton Football Club would like to thank Ella for her efforts over the years and wish her all the best for the future."
