SAINTS are likely to get a conclusion to the Che Adams saga soon following Scotland's exit from the European Championship in Germany.

Adams, former Saints teammate Stuart Armstrong and the rest of the Tartan Army's side were knocked out after a 1-0 defeat to Hungary.

A win would have sent Scotland into the knockout rounds for the first time but Kevin Csoboth scored spectacularly in the 100th minute.

It means Scotland have been knocked out of the group stages of all 12 major international tournaments they have qualified for.

Adams, who turns 28 next month, can now switch focus to his long-term future in club football with his contract expiring at Saints.

Just six days remain on his deal at St Mary's, despite a desire from manager Russell Martin and club bosses to keep him.

A new contract has been on the table for Adams since last summer but he has opted to run his current terms down and discuss with other clubs.

Wolves and Nottingham Forest have been credited as Premier League teams to have made their offer to Adams and his representatives.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab have reportedly made an offer to tempt the former Birmingham City man to the Saudi Pro League.

Their proposal is described as worth up to £130,000 a week when including basic wage and all potential performance bonuses.

Previous reports had suggested that Adams would make his decision after Scotland's EURO 2024 campaign with full focus on Germany.

The next contract Adams signs will likely take him into his 30s and the 16-Championship-goal striker has a life-changing decision to make.

Other factors such as proximity to family in the Midlands - hence the clubs linked - could be key to the young father's decision.

Admittedly, his performances for Scotland will likely have done little to spark additional interest from top-level clubs.

Adams started all three group matches for manager Steve Clarke, despite being hooked at half-time of their 5-1 opening night defeat to Germany.

He managed just one attempt on goal and 32 passes in three appearances, covering an average of just 6.67km a match.

Adams has only scored twice for Scotland since 2021, and they came in matches against minnows Armenia and Gibraltar.

The 27 year old scored five goals and provided three assists in his last Premier League season, as Saints suffered relegation.

A question mark remains over the effectiveness of Adams in the top flight - particularly if Martin operates with a sole striker once again.

However, Adams is clear as Southampton's best number nine with summer signing Ross Stewart still untested through injury.

His form in the second half of the Championship season was integral to the momentum Saints took into the playoffs.

Saints missed the forward through injury in the knockout games, playing just 20 minutes of the final win over Leeds United at Wembley.

Martin would like to keep Adams at the club but Saints are already exploring attacking options and could add regardless of his decision.

Whatever direction Adams decides to travel, with his contract to expire within a week, Saints should have more clarity imminently.

Adams could add to his 191 Saints appearances and it will be a welcome boost if he decides to do so - although many will feel Saints need to act regardless.
