FORMER Saints defender Romain Perraud labelled representing the club "a huge honour" as he addressed fans in a farewell message.

The 26 year old has signed for Spanish La Liga side Real Betis on a permanent deal to end his St Mary's stay after three years.

Perraud made 60 appearances for Saints since signing from Stade Brest for a £10million fee in the summer of 2021.

The Frenchman has penned a message to the club's supporters after the transfer was confirmed by the two clubs.

On social media platform X, Perraud said: "Saints fans, I’m not used to communicating too much but it’s important for me to tell you a few words.

"It was a huge honour to have fought for the badge during my time here. Always tried to give the best of myself without cheating despite ups and downs.

"But after all, the institution is above everything. This wonderful club is back where it belongs. You deserve to continue to experience great emotions.

"With the greatest of respect, thank you for everything. All the best. Encore merci, au revoir."

Perraud spent last season on loan at boyhood OGC Nice but started just three matches all season, with the French side opting not to make his stay permanent.
