SAINTS have reportedly shown an interest in Slovenia's Timi Max Elsnik after the midfielder impressed against England.

Elsnik, 26, has started all three games for Slovenia - who are set to take on Portugal in the round of 16 - at EURO 2024 in Germany.

The 19-cap international captains NK Olimpija Ljubljana in his native country, where is a league champion and two-time cup winner.

The Daily Mail report that Saints and Leicester have since shown an interest in signing Elsnik this summer ahead of the Premier League.

The report adds that Lazio of Italy and French giants Lyon are also interested in the midfielder, who has a £5.5million valuation.

Elsnik started his career in England with Derby County, playing in the Under-21 Premier League and making 50 League Two appearances on loan.

He was released from Derby in 2019 before returning to Slovenia, where he has played his club football ever since.

Elsnik has scored seven goals and provided five assists in each of his last two league seasons, where he has competed in all three UEFA club competitions.

Elsnik helped Slovenia thwart England in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, although the result was enough for Gareth Southgate's side to top the group.

The left-footer is a midfield number eight who can do both sides of the game - and Saints will need to add to their midfield ranks.

They have already confirmed the free signing of Adam Lallana, 36, while Stuart Armstrong, 32, is departing at the end of his contract.
