SUPPORTERS have had their say after Saints confirmed the additions of young defenders Ronnie Edwards and Nathan Wood.

Edwards, 21, has joined from League One Peterborough for £3million, signing a four-year contract.

Wood, 22, has also arrived for £3million, joining Southampton from Swansea a year after they launch an unsuccessful £10million bid. He has also signed a four-year deal.

The defensive duo have become the third and fourth additions to Russell Martin's squad ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Here is how supporters have reacted to their arrivals at St Mary's...

Daniel Taylor said: "Why are people getting upset? We just picked up an England U21 centre-back for £3million to go alongside the U20 England Captain. Early days yet and I’m happy with the progress so far."

Alan Clowes said: "Another one for the future? Has the board not learnt anything from the seasons that led to relegation?"

Kevin Dawson wrote: "That’s more like it, signing young players with potential better than signing yesterday's players."

David Robinson suggested: "At £3million he’s a bargain. I’m assuming there is some very big add-ons to this fee."

In response to Southampton signing Wood, @starli wrote: "Fair enough, for development, great player, we need to prem starter quality still, especially up front."

On Edwards joining, @Eddysfc said: "Quality signing. Young, but with loads and loads of experience and quality on the ball. Should do great for us."

@SFCMart shared a similar sentiment: "Whaaaaaaaaat!! Cracking signing this! I have the feeling we’ll be looking back on this moment for years to come. Ron and THB future England centre-backs!!"

James Hazzard added: "What a coup, definitely a future England player. Hopefully, we can enjoy him for a couple of seasons at least because he won't be with us for long with the way he’s going."
