BOXING promoter Frank Warren admitted it is a "no-brainer" to host a big event at St Mary's following the success of local boxers.

Southampton's Ryan Garner successfully retained his WBC International super-featherweight title on Saturday night at London's O2 Arena.

Fellow SO lad Royston Barney-Smith, 20, also claimed the WBO youth super-featherweight title at the same event.

Both compete under Queensberry Promotions' banner, owned by Warren, who has outlined his ambition to bring a show to the south coast.

"I've been talking to Garner about what next," Warren told BBC Sport. "What we will do now is bring a big event to the south coast.

"We've got some big stars down there so we'll do a show there hopefully before the end of the year.

"I'd want to do it for boxing because the more shows that we can put on across the country the better it is for the sport - there's obviously a big audience down there.

"If we can do it at St Mary's then it is a no-brainer for me. It's all about the venue and the size of the venue so we will have to investigate it but let's see."
