SAINTS have reportedly seen a bid of up to £15million for Liverpool attacker Fabio Carvalho rejected.

Carvalho, 21, is a long-term target for Southampton. They unsuccessfully attempted to sign him on loan in January before he opted to join Hull City.

He went on to score for Liam Rosenior's Tigers in a 2-1 win at St Mary's but was unable to help Hull qualify for the play-offs.

The Athletic report that Saints have picked up their interest in the Portuguese youth international but have seen their approach rejected.

They add that it is unclear if Russell Martin's side will push further for Carvalho with Liverpool expected to only accept a deal worth significantly higher than Southampton’s offer.

Fulham academy graduate Carvalho has impressed during pre-season under new boss Arne Slot, scoring in friendlies against Arsenal and Manchester United.

Carvalho delivered nine goals and two assists from 20 Championship games at Hull during the second half of last season.

Southampton are in need of attacking reinforcements with Martin admitting they will "highlight" the wide areas.

Sam Edozie and Sam Amo-Ameyaw are the only fit wingers at present with Kamaldeen Sulemana set to miss the start of the Premier League season.
