SAINTS are set to visit Championship side Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup round two later this month.

Round two ties are set to be played midweek commencing August 26, with Tuesday and Wednesday evenings slated for matches.

The competition remains regionalised in the early rounds with the draw split into a southern and northern section until round three.

Matches that finish level after 90 minutes in the first five rounds of the competition will go straight to penalties.

Russell Martin's Saints entered at the second round by virtue of their Premier League status.

Cardiff beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 on Tuesday evening to advance thanks to goals from Mark McGuinness and Rubin Colwill.

Southampton were knocked out in the first round of the Carabao Cup following a disappointing defeat to League Two Gillingham last season.
