BRAZILIAN giants Flamengo are reportedly in talks with Saints over a deal for Charly Alcaraz.

Saints are said to be discussing a fee of around £21.4m (€25m) for the Argentine, who joined from Racing club in 2023 for more than £11million.

Having enjoyed a personally successful start to life on the south coast, the midfielder's game time has suffered since Russell Martin took over last summer.

Alcaraz, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus but made only 12 appearances having suffered an injury during that spell in Italy.

Sky Sports report that Flamengo are in talks with Southampton over signing the midfielder, but no deal has been agreed yet.

Alcaraz has scored eight goals in 47 games for Southampton - with half of those appearances coming in the Championship last season.

The Argentina youth international's contract runs through until 2028 having signed an extension last season.

Alcaraz has featured in pre-season - scoring at Eastleigh - but missed their final friendly against Getafe through suspension.

He was shown a red card against Lazio for his role in a pull-apart brawl at St Mary's.

Martin has stated that Saints would ideally sell players before they are able to add more new signings this summer.

More to come...
