MANAGER Kelvin Davis was delighted after Eastleigh maintained their 100 per cent start to the Vanarama National League season with a 2-1 win over Solihull Moors on Tuesday evening.
It took three minutes for the home side to open the scoring, forcing an error which allowed Paul McCallum to put the ball on a plate for Jake Taylor to turn home.
Eastleigh doubled their advantage in the 10th minute when Scott Quigley’s cross picked out McCallum and he nodded in from close range.
The home side could have had a third with 25 minutes to play when Tyrese Shade teed up Quigley but he could only pass it into the grasp of goalkeeper Laurie Walker.
Solihull pulled a goal back in added time through Bradley Stevenson but it was nothing more than a consolation.
Speaking to Eastleigh's media team, Davis said: "I'm not sure if I agree that it was a brilliant game but a home win is something that we have set out to do.
"To get the three points was the most important outcome of the evening. We've got some bumps and bruises along the way which is disappointing.
"On the whole, it was a different type of performance to get the result today. On the back of the game at the weekend, we felt there was a lot of energy in the group.
"We wanted to get that onto the pitch as quick as we could. We got our rewards for that. It did feel like a long game after that.
"In the second half, we didn't keep the ball as well as we would have wanted. We knew what the challenge is with Solihull.
"They are very good when the ball is in the wide areas. We knew there would be issues. We dealt with that part of the game really well - and they scored a different type of goal."
Spitfires captain Taylor scored his second in successive games, doubling his all time record for the club.
"I spoke to Jake at the end of the season about what he is capable of," Davis added. "I felt that there was more to come from Jake.
"He is a great age and got great experience. He'd won promotion in the past and we wanted him to lead a bit more on the pitch with his performances."
Up next for the Spitfires, who sit two points clear at the top of the table after three games, is a trip to Altrincham.
"It's away from home so that game will be a different dynamic. It's a trek off the back of this game so we know we have to recover the boys really well.
"I haven't looked at them too much yet, we don't like to look too far ahead, but every team in the league expects to do well at home."
