SAINTS manager Russell Martin was tight-lipped on the club's pursuit of Aaron Ramsdale but admitted the goalkeeper would be a "fantastic addition".

The St Mary's side have agreed a deal with Arsenal over the England international's permanent transfer ahead of the transfer deadline.

Saints will pay £18million up front with a further £1million if Saints avoid relegation, and £6million worth of incentives for a £25million total package.

Ramsdale boasts five England caps and 153 Premier League appearances but Martin was not drawn into comments on his arrival.

Martin told the Daily Echo: "I don't know about it, I've been on the other side of the pitch. I think he'd be a fantastic addition if we are able to do it.

"We'll see because we had another goalkeeper in this week (Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow) and it was well documented and that didn't end up happening.

"If it gets done, as and when it gets done, I'll express my emotion about it to you then - but until then, I can't really do very much."

Saints have until the transfer deadline at 11pm on Friday, August 30, to confirm any additions to their squad. They are also hunting attacking reinforcements.
