SAINTS star Kyle Walker-Peters has been given a positive indication by interim England boss Lee Carsley, as he was named on this month's standby list.
The 27 year old has not represented the Three Lions since he earned his first two caps at Wembley Stadium in March 2022.
Gareth Southgate, who gave Walker-Peters his England debut, stepped down as boss after EURO 2024 and has been replaced temporarily by Carsley.
Walker-Peters hopes to force his way into Carsley's plans and will be encouraged by his inclusion on the standby list - even if he goes unused.
Being named on the England standby list means Walker-Peters will be first in line for a call-up if there is a late injury in Carsley's squad.
Saints boss Russell Martin said: "He's on the standby list so obviously he has a good chance at some point if he carries on playing the way he's playing.
"He's a really flexible player and I think having watched Lee's under-21s team, he's a player that would really suit the way that if he takes that into the first team.
"I'm sure he will so he'll really suit the way that England play and Kyle needs to just keep doing what he's doing. He's been great for us.
"I think he's started the season really, really well in terms of performance, especially after a pre-season when he didn't play too much and all the noise around him.
"I think he's dealt brilliantly with that and he has to keep doing what he's doing and hopefully we'll have him and others getting international recognition this season."
Carsley name-dropped Walker-Peters without prompting in his first press conference at St George's Park last week.
He said: "Trent Alexander-Arnold and a lot of modern-day full-backs have got attributes that almost turn them into midfielders.
"As has Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker-Peters. I watched Kyle the other day. They are all very comfortable in possession, playing forwards and receiving the ball."
