SAINTS under-21s have discovered their group-stage opponents ahead of the first edition of the National League Cup.

Simon Rusk's Saints have been placed in Group A alongside Brighton, Fulham and Reading but will only face Aldershot, Maidenhead, Wealdstone and Woking.

The competition, which begins in October, will offer an opportunity for National League clubs to play regular matches against the best under-21 teams in England at their own stadiums.

The tournament will consist of a group stage (four groups of eight), with the two best-placed teams in each group advancing to a knockout stage to determine the winner.

All gate receipts received from these fixtures will go into the pockets of the National League clubs.

The combined prize fund for the competition is £1million, provided by the Premier League. Prize money will only be distributed to National League clubs.

Eastleigh are not among the 16 National League teams competing in the first edition of the competition.
