SAINTS boss Russell Martin revealed some senior players will feature for the under-21s against Norwich City this evening.

Simon Rusk's side return to Premier League 2 action having secured an impressive 2-1 win over reigning champions Tottenham last time out.

Martin admitted home games at Staplewood give Saints with the best opportunity to control the environment, allowing senior players to gain valuable minutes.

Juan Larios has already played for the under-21s this season, while the likes of Ryan Manning, Ronnie Edwards and Armel Bella-Kotchap could feature.

Martin explained: "I think everyone's come through unscathed from the Everton game midweek.

"So, a few guys have been left out of the squad recently. We'll pick the best team and the best squad that we feel we have are available for the game against Ipswich."

Martin has previously admitted that Southampton's squad is too big, something which forced them to leave goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu unregistered.

Bella-Kotchap has publicly stated he is available to play for the senior team but is one of many having to wait for an opportunity.

Martin admitted the relationship between the senior team and the under-21s should allow for an easy transition between the two groups.

"The under-21s train with us all of the time. Rusky had an existing relationship with Gilly (Matt Gill, Saints assistant) and I'm getting to know him as well.

"We have a lot of mutual acquaintances. He's a really good coach. Their staff work in the office next to us. They train on the pitch next to us every day.

"Their lads come over and train with us a lot. They all know each other. The lads who we have asked to play have been brilliant with it.

"They want some minutes on the pitch. It's a good chance for them to show what they can do. It's an opportunity. I'm looking forward to watching it."
