OUT on loan Saints midfielder Shea Charles beamed after scoring his first senior goal for Sheffield Wednesday against Coventry.

Charles, 20, bagged a late winner for Danny Rohl's Owls at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday to cap off a brilliant week.

The young Northern Ireland international, who joined Saints from Manchester City last summer, has received repeated praise from manager Rohl and teammate Barry Bannan.

Veteran midfielder Bannan lauded Charles' performances, insisting the Saints man has made his job "easier."

Speaking to Wednesday's media team, Charles admitted there is no better way to win a game than scoring in the last minute.

He said: "When Musa picked up the ball I thought 'I will just run and create some space for him.' The gap has opened up for me and he's played a perfect ball to me.

"I don't think there are many better ways to win a game of football than that. I just wish it was in front of the away fans because I know they went crazy.

"I'm having a great time. I'm really enjoying it. We've had some good results and deserved more in the games where we didn't get results. The manager has been the head of that."

A smile spread across Charles' face when asked if his brother Pierce, who also plays for Sheffield Wednesday, had said anything to him about the goal.

"He was a part of the celebrations somehow," he laughed. "I couldn't believe it. I turned around and I saw Pierce's face.

"(Playing regular games) is helping me a lot. It's just what I need. To do it in a team like this and at a team like this is perfect."
