SOUTHAMPTON-based Taekwondo club LMC has celebrated nine gold medals from this month's British Taekwondo National Championships.

A team of 27 fighters aged five to 40 years old competed in the tournament in Sheffield, scooping an impressive 16 medals.

Coached by former Team GB Olympic athlete Max Cater, LMC High Performance Centre ranked fifth out of 80 teams across the country across the two-day event.

The results are the club's best performance to date, having been operating for five years and opening their full-time facility earlier this year.

Cater told the Daily Echo: "I’m extremely proud of Team LMC, this is the best result we’ve had and we want to improve each year.

"We are celebrating not only this but we’ve had a fighter just return from competing in the Junior World Championship in South Korea and another representing Great Britain in the Cadet European Championship.

"There is much more to come from the LMC High Performance Centre as we look forward to our competition held in Eastleigh on December 1."

The second LMC Prize Fighter Championships are taking place at Places Leisure in Eastleigh, with a £1000 cash award on offer to the first-placed team.
