SAINTS Women boss Remi Allen was "buzzing" after they thrashed Portsmouth 5-0 on Sunday - but admitted her side could have scored 10.

Second-half goals from Meg Collett, Molly Pike and Rianna Dean ensured a memorable afternoon for Saints against Portsmouth.

They were dominant throughout and rounded out the game with three goals between the 87th and 90th minutes.

Allen praised her side for their ruthless nature in the second half before insisting there are still areas they can improve.

Speaking at Fratton Park, she said: “I was buzzing. We made hard work of it in the first half. If we had taken our chances it would have felt comfortable quicker.

“In the second half, we were ruthless in front of goal. To do it in front of the fans, to celebrate in front of the fans, it was really special to watch.

“Nothing really (changed at half-time). It was about doing the same things but adding that ruthless quality in front of goal.

“The difference if anything was the unselfishness. There was a couple of goals were the person who has assisted could have easily shot and scored.

“Instead, they’ve squared it and we’ve scored. I think that ruthlessness to dominate the game - I’m really proud of them.”

She added: “I do think we were the better team on the day. We have real quality in the team and I think it showed.

“There are still some things we can improve on. We can change and adapt - and we will improve.

“We are so far from perfection but there are so many things we are pleased with. We have to be competitive in this league.”

Southampton's second goal was scored by academy graduate and childhood fan Collett, who burst forward from right-back before tucking in at the near post.

Allen admitted it was a fantastic moment for the 19 year old who is starting to grow into a key component of her side.

“I said to her when I brought her off ‘That’s got to be a special moment for you.’ It was almost written in the stars.

“She milked it for all it was worth in front of the fans. Good on here. Molly (Pike) could have had more (goals) in the first half but the most pleasing thing was her assist for Rianna Dean.

“Any other player is probably trying to finish that themselves. She was really unselfish. She’s got goals and assists, that's what she’s in the team to do.”

Allen was also full of praise for Dean, who once again made an impact off the bench. The former Spurs forward has now taken her account up to five in the league this season.

“She was disappointed not to start but she’s done what we brought her on to do. Every time she comes on, she’s delivered.

“She should be really pleased with her application but also with how she is delivering as well."
