CHILDHOOD Saints fan Meg Collett admitted she was "so happy" to beat Portsmouth 5-0 at Fratton Park.

Collett, 19, scored Southampton FC Women's second goal as they thrashed recently promoted Pompey on Sunday.

Molly Pike and Rianna Dean added further goals on a brilliant afternoon for Remi Allen's side behind enemy lines.

The academy graduate could not hide her pride when speaking to Southampton's media team at full-time.

She said: “We couldn’t ask for more really. It’s a credit to the girls. We’ve worked so hard all week to have this moment.

“Everyone was aware of how big of a game this is. We came here and did our job. There is always going to be a scrappy element.

“I felt we were really clinical today - that’s a credit to everyone. We scored five goals and I’m just so happy to beat Pompey.”

Collett opened her account for the season when she raced through on goal before tucking the ball home at the near post.

“I can’t even explain it really," she said, reflecting on her goal. "It was a great moment to go over to the fans and see my family in the crowd. I can’t explain that moment. It was unreal.

“I was buzzing - I didn’t know what to do. I thought I should knee slide to get a better photo. I’m going to enjoy it with my family. I couldn't have asked for any more.

“The scoreline showed that we deserved it. Pompey did have some moments but I thought we could have had a few more.

“I don’t know what happened in the last 10 minutes. We seemed to unleash a bit. We couldn’t stop scoring.

“I think this result has been coming - and it’s needed. This result will give us a lot of confidence going into next week.

“We’ve got a big game against Birmingham coming up. We’ll be back to the training ground working hard.

“Celebrating is important. A 5-0 victory against Portsmouth on derby day, everyone will enjoy tonight and the day off on Monday but it’s back to training on Tuesday."
