SOUTHAMPTON delivered two very different halves of football as they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Leicester.

Jordan Ayew completed a sensational turnaround as his added-time winner capped off a comeback win for Leicester at 10-man Southampton.

Substitute Ayew smashed in Harry Winks’ low corner eight minutes into stoppage time after Facundo Buonanotte and Jamie Vardy’s penalty sparked an incredible comeback.

Goals from Cameron Archer and Joe Aribo had lifted the hosts and built hope of a first victory of the Premier League season.

However, the second-half turnaround ramps up the pressure on boss Russell Martin – with Saints club-record run of matches without a top-flight victory now at 21.

Here's how we rated every Southampton player's performance at St Mary's on Saturday...

Starters

Aaron Ramsdale - 5.

Had little to do in the first half as Saints bossed the game. Made just the one save - albeit a very good one to deny Vardy from close range. Should have done better for Ayew's winner.

Yukinari Sugawara - 6.

Combined well with Dibling down the right again. Twice played an inviting cross which was not met by a shot to match the delivery. Withdrawn after 62 minutes - at 2-0 - when he was unable to continue.

Part of a defence which conceded three goals for a third straight league game. Did try to get out and block Ayew's late winner but was not quick enough when throwing himself in the way.

Jan Bednarek - 6.

Recovered to block an effort from Vardy after Saintds failed to deal with Buonanotte on the counterattack. Also tried to block the winner without succeeding.

Kyle Walker-Peters - 6.

Beat James Justin down the left to tee up Joe Aribo for the second goal. Combined well with Manning in the first half as both players swapped roles. Swapped to the right after Sugawara's injury.

Ryan Manning - 6.

Set up the opening goal, scored by Archer. Produced a brilliant block on the line to deny Fatawu and Vardy but it counted for nothing due to Fraser's foul moments before which VAR later checked. Done well since coming back into the team.

Flynn Downes - 5.

Was beaten at the near post by Buonanotte for Leicester's first goal. Had gone close to scoring down the other end when his close volley was eventually saved by Mads Hermansen. Was tidy on the ball, completing all but two of his passes.

Joe Aribo - 7.

Doubled Southampton's lead when he met Walker-Peters' cross to tap in from close range. Has struck the crossbar with a header prior to that. Looked to play testing balls in behind the Leicester defence.

Mateus Fernandes - 6.

Good on the ball and tenacious in the tackle but had to be withdrawn after a yellow as he was one foul away from being sent off. Continues to show signs of his really high potential.

Tyler Dibling - 6.

Did not impose himself as much in this game as he has done in others. Got little in the way of decisions from referee Anthony Taylor. Did skin Justin before seeing a near-post effort saved by Hermansen.

Put Saints ahead with his second goal in as many games. Good positioning in the box to get that chance. Continued to get chances as a result of his movement and pace. May not have taken the following opportunities, but he gets in good positions far more often than anyone else.

Substitutes

Ryan Fraser - 3.

On the field for just 11 minutes before he was shown a red card. Did offer something in attack but struggled to deal with Fatawu. A nightmare cameo.

Came on to replace Fernandes following Leicester's first goal. Struggled to impose himself on the game. Played the final 15 minutes with an injury.

Paul Onuachu - 5.

Came on alongside Smallbone, replacing Archer. Should have gone down in the box when he was pulled back by Archer. Was not found often enough for someone who is six-foot-seven.

Charlie Taylor - 6.

Completed all of his tackles when coming on to fill in for the sent-off Fraser. Only made one pass as Saints tried to hold on.

Kamaldeen Sulemana - 5.

Was introduced to add pace on the counterattack and had his chance but was unable to get a shot off before Wout Faes came across to stop him.
