Edwards was the more experienced boxer, but Cooper managed to drop his opponent with a right hand in the second round which gave the referee no choice but to stop the contest.
Cooper then had to beat Daniel Ogbeide of Middlesborough in the final on Sunday October 20, digging deep to win unanimously by decision 5-0.
The junior division in the National Development Championships was open to any English boxers aged 14, 15 or 16.
