SAINTS loanee Shea Charles helped Sheffield Wednesday to a 2-1 comeback victory over Hampshire rivals Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

The midfielder completed 90 minutes of the contest, as former Saints defender Yan Valery assisted the winning goal from Michael Smith.

Defender Connor Ogilvie gave Pompey the lead just before half-time when a corner worked its way to the back post and the defender fired in.

But the visitors started the second half brightly, levelling the game through Josh Windass who scored his third league goal of the campaign.

The Owls, under the stewardship of Ralph Hasenhuttl's first assistant Danny Rohl, condemned Pompey to another weekend at the bottom of the table.

Charles, 20, has started all eight matches for Wednesday since his summer loan to Hillsborough, with his side now four points off the play-offs.

Saints boss Russell Martin opted to loan the Northern Ireland international this season in order to deposit into his bank of senior experience.

Manchester City academy product Charles made 32 Championship appearances last campaign after his £10million move to St Mary's.

Charles has operated in the number six role for new boss Rohl, who deploys a high press, high-tempo style with the play-off hopefuls.
