MANCHESTER City midfielder Bernardo Silva believes winless Saints deserve "a lot more" points so far this season.

Southampton remain on just one point and now sit bottom of the Premier League table following a narrow 1-0 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday.

Portuguese international Silva was quick to praise Saints after the game and admitted their style made it difficult to win the ball back.

Silva admitted City wasted chances to kill the game off but also felt Southampton deserved credit for their resolute performance.

He told Sky Sports: “We have a lot of respect for all the teams in the Premier League.

"I watched some of the games Southampton played up to now and I think they deserve a lot more points than what they have got.

“(We have) a lot of respect for the way they play. They press high and build up with the ball. They have a lot of really good patterns which make it very difficult to press them.

“If you go man to man then they find the space in the middle. It’s not easy for our defenders and they have fast guys up front.

"It was a tough game for us but we are very happy with the three points. We are used to it now a little bit when teams defend deep against us.

"They always defend with a line of 5-4-1, more or less. That makes it more difficult and we have to be patient.

“We had chances to make it three or four but they also deserve credit for what they did here today."
