HAMPSHIRE fast bowler John Turner has been awarded an England Development Contract for 2024/25 in the latest tranche of men’s central contracts from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Turner, 23, was first awarded a development contract by the ECB last winter, and retains his place after an impressive summer, particularly in the shorter formats.

His 15 wickets were the most for Hampshire Hawks in the 2024 Vitality Blast, and he also claimed five wickets in four matches for Trent Rockets in the men’s Hundred competition.

Turner is currently on tour with the England men’s white ball squad in the Caribbean and could make his debut.

England’s first One Day International (ODI) begins at 6pm GMT on 31 October, with two further ODIs on Saturday 2 November and Wednesday 6 November, before a five-match IT20 series from 9-17 November.

From there, Turner will travel to his native South Africa with England Lions as he is part of a 19-player squad to tour from 20 November-14 December.

Rob Key, managing director of England men’s cricket, said: “The strength and depth of talent across England men’s red and white-ball cricket is clear in the quality of players who are centrally contracted.

“These contracts reward the players we believe will play an important role for our England Men’s teams. Both our captains, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, have signed two-year central contracts that showcase the commitment of all the players to prioritise playing for their country.

“I want to congratulate all the players who have signed new central contracts ahead of what is set to be an exciting period for England Men’s cricket.”
