STRUGGLING Saints manager Russell Martin reportedly still has support from the club's decision-makers - and potentially more time.

The pressure on Martin has increased going into the November international break following a 2-0 defeat at relegation rivals Wolves.

The result means Saints have been beaten in nine of their 11 Premier League matches this season and they sit firmly bottom of the table.

Wolves picked up their first three points of the campaign against Saints to leapfrog them, undoing some goodwill earned by a 1-0 win over Everton.

Asked about his future, Martin said: "It'll be what it'll be. We work as hard as we can, with as much care, love and commitment to the players as we can.

"The rest is really out of my control so I don't sweat it and I don't focus on it. Hopefully, I'll be able to talk to you in two weeks. If I'm not, we'll see."

BBC Sports's latest report appears to suggest that Martin could be given more time as he retains the backing of the club's bosses.

They detail that "the experience" of Sport Republic CEO Rasmus Ankersen means he remains patient and strategic regarding Saints.

They assert that his time at Brentford as co-director of football has "given him knowledge" of how to build a sustainable model and a successful team.

The report suggests the owners also remain visible at Staplewood training ground and give Martin support, for now - and potentially more time.

A pre-season aim of finishing 17th is not considered beyond possibility and there is an understanding of challenges faced this season at St Mary's.

Those at St Mary's feel they should have earned more points than the four they have so far and believe they are not far from a breakthrough.

Although the players are a tight-knit group behind Martin, the report adds that Saints could be in the market for up to three additions in January.

Indeed, the Daily Echo understands Saints were reluctant to part ways with another manager given the disaster that followed during the 2022/23 campaign.

A source suggested it could cost up to £12million to terminate the deals of Martin and all his staff and hire replacements when finances are already limited.

But it is a results business and Saints bosses will be forced into action if things do not improve - indeed, many fans feel that point has already come.
