A NEW Premier League 'supercomputer' has predicted Saints to finish within two points of Derby County's unwanted record set in 2007/08.

Derby recorded just 11 points when they were relegated as the worst-ever Premier League side with four points fewer than the next poorest effort.

Sunderland held the record at 15 points (2006/06) before Derby smashed it, although Sheffield United came close last season with just 16 points.

Russell Martin's Saints have lost nine of their first 11 matches this campaign and sit bottom of the Premier League on just four points from an available 33.

A 2-0 defeat at Wolves, who were occupying the bottom spot in the division before leapfrogging Saints, has left Martin as a manager under pressure.

And the new Casino Hawks Premier League 'supercomputer' predicts that things will not get much better for the St Mary's side this season.

The experiment concluded with Saints finishing bottom on 13 points, winning three matches, drawing a further four and losing 31.

Finishing with fewer points Derby's infamous strugglers would be the ultimate humiliation with many commentators suggesting it will never be broken.

The supercomputer simulates every Premier League fixture left to play this season before collating the results and completing a league table.

It predicts that Wolves and Ipswich Town will both join Saints in the Championship next year despite winning their first games on the weekend.

If the data turned out to be perfect, Martin's side would be nine points adrift of 19th and 14 points behind Leicester City, who survive in 17th.

Liverpool will win the Premier League title in their first season under Arne Slot, finishing two points clear of Arsenal in second and seven ahead of Man City.

Many fans across the country would be happy to see Man United finish 11th, despite the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim from Sporting.
