A VIDEO which appears to show Premier League referee David Coote making derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is being investigated by Professional Game Match Officials Limited.
The PA news agency understands PGMOL is aware of the video and is looking into it. Liverpool have been contacted by PA for comment.
Referee Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending an investigation after a video was posted on social media.
It is unclear when the video was made or how it came into circulation, but in it Coote is asked for his views on a Liverpool match where he has just been fourth official,
Coote seems to use a highly offensive term to describe German boss Klopp, who left Liverpool in the summer after almost a decade in charge.
Coote was the official for the Reds’ most recent Premier League game – a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday night.
Coote last refereed Saints in their 5-0 defeat at Sunderland in September 2023. The 42 year old refereed six Premier League matches this season.
PGMOL said in a statement: “David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.”
