SAINTS goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will withdraw from England duty and is set for a spell on the sidelines with a suspected fractured finger.
The club do not know the full extent of Ramsdale's injury, which requires surgery, and the timeframe is yet to be established for his return.
Ramsdale played all 90 minutes of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Wolves, which has left Russell Martin's side bottom of the Premier League.
A Saints statement confirmed the news and said: "Aaron Ramsdale has been forced to withdraw from the latest England squad due to injury.
"He will miss the Nations League contests against Greece and Republic of Ireland due to an injury picked up in Saturday’s Premier League game against Wolves.
"Ramsdale will now remain with the medical staff at Staplewood Campus over the international break."
Alex McCarthy will be first in line to replace Ramsdale in any fixtures that he misses. McCarthy played the first two matches of the league season.
Previous cases of broken fingers have resulted in goalkeepers such as Jack Butland missing between four to six weeks of matches.
The Three Lions are set to visit Greece on Thursday, November 14, before concluding with Republic of Ireland at Wembley on Sunday, November 17.
Ramsdale is one of eight players to withdraw from the England squad this week, including Southampton-local Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are also all unavailable.
