Southampton FC Women cruised past Portsmouth FC 4-0 away in the Women’s League Cup to pick up their sixth consecutive win in the south coast derby.
Strikes from Emma Thompson and Megan Collett saw Saints go two goals ahead after 20 minutes, with the former scoring her second 15 minutes later.
Thompson secured her first career hat-trick in the 94th minute, striking the rivals down with the fourth and final goal.
Saints manager Remi Allen brought Benedicte Haaland in for her first start of the season and several players from academy squads were on the bench.
The away side started strong in the first 10 minutes as Paige Peake’s free-kick was blocked and Milly Mott appealed for a penalty that the referee was not interested in.

But it only took Thompson one shot to open the scoring, as she moved into space with her back to goal and drilled the ball into the bottom corner in the 18th minute.
Collett got onto the scoresheet in the 33rd by latching onto a loose ball inside the area, sending a looping left-footed effort into the net.
Paige Peake created chaos with a free-kick for the third, and when her low delivery was not cleared away, Thompson swooped in at point blank range to tuck her brace in.
Portsmouth nearly got a goal back when Emma Jones got through from a counter attack, but her shot went well over the crossbar.

Saints created significantly less in the second half after going up by three, but stayed alert to see the fixture out.
Substitute Chloe Peplow almost scored from Peake’s corner, but she could not keep her close range effort down and it went over the bar.
Thompson eventually got her hat-trick in stoppage time, capping off a flawless performance with a top corner first-time finish inside the area.
Saints are now four games unbeaten and have put their first points on the board in the Women’s League Cup.
