Former Saints star Wayne Bridge is set to leave Chelsea for Manchester City after the clubs agreed a fee believed to be around £12m.
The left-back has made 141 appearances for Chelsea since his £7m-plus-Graeme Le Saux move to Stamford Bridge in 2003 - but Saints are not thought to gain from a sell-on clause.
Southampton-born Bridge, whose family still live in Winchester, is understood to be on the verge of agreeing a four-year deal worth £5.2m.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes said: "We need to speak to the boy and try to agree personal terms. If we can do that hopefully Wayne will be a Manchester City player, that's the aim.
"Wayne will probably travel to Manchester this evening and hopefully negotiations will go well and he can have a medical tomorrow."
