CHRIS Perry has warned his teammates not to concede an early goal against Manchester United – and not to score one either.
The veteran defender has enjoyed many tussles with the Red Devils over the years and had his most notable success in 1997 when playing for Wimbledon as the Crazy Gang knocked them out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage after earning a replay at Old Trafford.
They went on to reach the semi-finals that season but that victory is a rare blip for United, and most of Perry’s career games against them have involved plenty of defending – not least when he was 3-0 up at half-time playing for Tottenham only to lose 5-3.
When asked whether his side needed to make sure they didn’t concede an early goal he said: “I also think we can’t afford to score an early goal either because then they’ll probably step it up a gear."
