BAD news for Saints fans – Jamie Cureton is likely to be leading the Barnsley attack this weekend.
The much-travelled striker has scored five goals in his last four Championship matches against Saints – and finished on the winning side in all of them, writes SIMON CARTER.
Now he is looking to return to the Barnsley side and score in his third successive game for the Tykes.
Cureton is currently on loan at the club from fellow Championship side Norwich, a loan that is due to run out at the end of this month.
Given Norwich’s current position, it is likely Cureton won’t be allowed to stay at Oakwell once his loan ends.
Cureton wasn’t allowed to play against West Ham in the FA Cup last week due to the terms of his loan agreement.
Barnsley’s top league scorer, Jon Macken, was also absent at Upton Park through sickness.
Both are expected to start up front against Saints at the expense of Kay Odejayi and Blackburn loanee Maceo Rigters.
Cureton was the Championship’s top scorer in 2006/07 when he netted 24 goals for Colchester.
He scored in the 2-0 Layer Road win against Saints and then grabbed a double when Colchester won the Friday night return at St Mary’s 2-1.
Following a summer move to Norwich, Cureton netted twice against Saints again in a 2-1 Carrow Road win in August 2007.
He also appeared for the Canaries when they won 1-0 at St Mary’s last January.
