JAN Poortvliet described his side's crushing 2-1 home loss to Doncaster as a “big, big defeat.”
The under pressure head coach saw his team slip to second bottom of the Championship table as a result of the defeat and they are looking deep in relegation trouble.
Saints did have their chances in the first half but were well below par in the second and now face a huge battle to survive the drop.
Poortvliet said: “I think it is a big, big defeat and it's hit us hard.
“I thought the first half we could have made a couple of goals and we didn't do it and that’s my only disappointment because we worked hard and the only thing we missed was the confidence to make the goal.
“They had chances first half as well but we had a lot more and should have made a goal.
“We came out second half and the intention was for the first ten minutes to put the pressure on but straight away we conceded a goal and that was a bit unlucky.
“Then you are out of confidence and we had to find ourselves.”
