KELVIN Davis has urged Saints fans to stick together for the rest of the season.

Supporters were seen fighting among themselves during the 2-1 defeat to Doncaster, pictured right, adding a black mark to an already miserable day.

The trouble is believed to have stemmed from some fans arguing about anti-Rupert Lowe chants occurring during the match.

There were also protests against the current board after the game.

Davis, Saints’ star player of the season and one of the most senior pros at the club, said he understood and accepted the frustration of the fans.

He added it was up to the players to do all they can to turn the situation around for them. But he said it was important for the squad that a united and positive fan base backs them for the season’s final 18 games.

He believes that, if they do, the club can still go on to eventually achieve “something special.”

“It’s key for everyone to stick together and stay focused on what we all want to achieve because together we can do something special,” he said.

“The results are obviously displeasing to the fans and displeasing to ourselves, but when we pull on that shirt and when the whistle blows it’s up to us as players and professionals to get the result and keep everyone happy.

“That includes everyone, from the players and fans to the manager and that when things aren’t going well it’s even harder to stay positive and perform well.

“It’s up to us as players to win and keep your support by giving 100 per cent, but it’s also up to the fans to stick together as well.

“The fans showed their disappointment as well and we’ve got to understand that and accept that we’ve got a responsibility to ourselves, to the supporters and to the club to put in maximum effort.”
