Mark Wotte has challenged his players to build on their fight back against Norwich by winning back-to-back matches at St Mary’s for the first time this season.
Saints looked to be sinking without trace as they trailed 2-0 at half-time at Carrow Road on Tuesday in Wotte’s first game as head coach after taking over from Jan Poortvliet.
But a change of personnel and tactics from Wotte, pictured, at half-time did the trick and gave Saints the platform to grab a valuable point.
Now, though, the pressure is really on for Saints to buck their terrible home form that has seen them win just one in 14 league games at St Mary’s this season.
Saints face in-form Swansea on Saturday – the Welsh club having won their last five league and cup games – before a visit from high-flyers Sheffield United next Tuesday.
With other results having gone against them this week – Watford, Doncaster, Nottingham Forest and even rock bottom Charlton all winning on Tuesday - Saints can barely afford any more slip-ups.
Wotte said: “If we want to do something then we have to have results in these next two matches.
“A lot of clubs around us won this week so we need a win, probably two, to get back out of the bottom three."
