MARK Wotte described his side’s magnificent 3-0 win over Ipswich as “a great night for Southampton Football Club.”
Saints made it three league wins in a row for the first time in over two years as they demolished promotion chasing Ipswich at Portman Road.
It was a performance with flashes of quality but real grit and determination.
Though plenty of other results again went against Saints they are giving themselves a real chance of avoiding the drop after collecting nine points out of nine.
Head coach Wotte said: “We are a unit and we’re on a run and hopefully we can win some more games because we’re still in trouble.
“We’re not safe – we still need four or five wins in the next ten matches.
“Everybody is looking at Southampton Football Club in a different way.
“Everybody is backing us, everybody is supporting us, nobody’s moaning any more and that’s a good thing for us.
“We created this spirit and we can be proud of ourselves for the last three matches.
“But now we have to go to Birmingham and it’s another story so let’s be realistic, we’re still in trouble.”
He added: “I felt very confident after the first 20 minutes last night.
“I thought if it’s not an unlucky night we're going to win.
“We caused so many problems to Ipswich and I don’t think they were prepared for us.
“It was Jason Euell’s game but I have to give credit to all the players and the subs.
“It was a great night for Southampton Football Club and it was the best game of the season.
“They did exactly what I asked for them – kept a clean sheet, very good on the break.
