SAINTS have given the go ahead for a Fans’ Parliament, to improve communication with supporters.

As revealed by the Daily Echo last month, the initiative was put forward by football chairman Michael Wilde.

It will provide fans with an independent forum where they can quiz, and make suggestions to, those who run the club.

After receiving full board approval for the concept, which is similar to one employed by Wolves, Wilde, right, wanted to gauge fan reaction to it.

Having listened to the response, he has decided to give it the green light.

“We are very keen to highlight that, while the club will provide help and assistance at every opportunity, the parliament, when formed, will be an independent body working outside of the club’s remit,” said Wilde.

“The aim of this independent body will be to give all fans a voice that may otherwise be lost amidst the clamour and somewhat ad-hoc nature of many current supporters’ initiatives.”

The first step is to set up a selection committee, which will ultimately run the process that decides who sits on the parliament.

Nominations for the committee must be received by March 31.

These will be evaluated by the club, which will be the only part Saints play in the entire selection process.

“The committee will be made up of a maximum of six people, with no more than two coming from the club itself,” explained Wilde.

“We would therefore invite fans to nominate fellow supporters who they feel have the best interests of the club at heart, and who would be able to work within a small, democratically-run, committee.”
