MARK Wotte believes a motivated Bradley Wright-Phillips could give Saints’ survival hopes a real boost.
But the head coach has told his player to learn a lesson from Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in order to improve his finishing.
Wotte introduced Wright-Phillips as a substitute for Marek Saganowski in the final 15 minutes of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with QPR.
The 24-year-old had an instant impact, causing the visiting defence a great deal of problems.
Wotte said Wright-Phillips, who has been in and out of the squad recently, would travel to Blackpool this weekend and could even start.
But he has urged the striker to take a leaf out of the book of one of the world’s best.
“Bradley Wright-Phillips has everything you need to be a good striker,” said Wotte.
“But he can improve in the final, most important, thing, which is taking his chances.
“Sometimes he needs to be a little bit more relaxed in front of goal.
“You see Fernando Torres at the weekend going one-on-one with Van der Sar.
“Before he hits the ball, he just touches it one time extra to get the goalkeeper off balance, then he shoots.
“We are obviously talking about a world class striker, but there are similarities, because before you score you have to relax a bit.
“Bradley did it against Reading this season, but he has to improve a little bit on that.
“In England they call it composure, to be cool and relaxed before you score."
