ANY new owners at Saints will inherit a much reduced squad compared to the one that ended last season.

Thirteen players who played for the first team under Jan Poortvliet or Mark Wotte have already left or retired since the end of 2008/09.

Rudi Skacel and Ryan Smith were told shortly after the season ended that they were being released.

Kelvin Davis, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Stern John and Jason Euell are all now free agents as their contracts expired yesterday with no new regime in place to offer new deals.

Those four departures alone have saved around £30,000 from the weekly wage bill at the club.

Michael Svensson’s contract has also expired, though he had pre-empted that by announcing his retirement from playing last week.

Nathan Dyer, David McGoldrick and Andrew Surman have all been sold in order to pay the wages at a time when the club have been unable to sell season tickets in order to bring in money during the summer months.

In addition, Romain Gasmi, Zoltan Liptak and Jan Paul Saeijs have returned to their parent clubs following the expiry of their loan deals.

Goalkeeper Michael Poke is back at Saints, though, after finishing last season playing on the winning side at Wembley for Torquay in the Blue Square Premier play-off final.

Another keeper, Bartosz Bialkowski, is also back at the club after finishing last season on loan at Ipswich.

Defender Wayne Thomas could also be fit after missing the whole of last season through injury.

All the above mentioned departures have left Saints with only 21 players on their books with first team experience.

Of that lot, only Chris Perry, Wayne Thomas, Paul Wotton, Marek Saganowski and Grzegorz Rasiak have major experience.

But the likes of Adam Lallana, Lloyd James and Simon Gillett have vitually a full season at Championship level under their belts.

Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin won’t feature in the friendly at Eastleigh on Saturday as he is currently playing for the French under-20 side in the Mediterranean Games.

This is who is currently available in terms of players with first team experience: Goalkeepers: Tommy Forecast, Michael Poke, Bartosz Bialkowski.

Defenders: Lloyd James, Ollie Lancashire, Joseph Mills, Chris Perry, Wayne Thomas, Lee Molyneux.

Midfielders: Simon Gillett, Paul Wotton, Morgan Schneiderlin, Oscar Gobern, Adam Lallana, Lee Holmes, Jake Thomson, Kyle McLaggon.

Strikers: Marek Saganowski, Grzegorz Rasiak, Matt Paterson, Jamie White.
