NEWCASTLE manager Chris Hughton has ruled out a move for Saints striker Rickie Lambert.
Rumours had been swirling that Hughton would launch a loan bid for Saints' top scorer if he failed in his pursuit of wantaway Leeds star Jermaine Beckford.
As previously revealed by the Daily Echo, the only conceivable way Lambert could leave St Mary's in January is on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer - as FIFA rules prevent him signing and playing for a third club in a single season.
Although Hughton said he admired Lambert, he has denied Newcastle have any interest in him at the moment.
“We aren’t looking to bring Rickie here," he said.
“He is a very good player and one who is doing well this season, like he did last, but not one we are looking at.”
