EUROPEAN Tour pro Richard Bland is off to a flier at the Avantha Masters, in India.

The Southampton golfer, who has started the season in fine form, shot four-under-par at the DLF Golf & Country Club, in New Delhi.

That put him into a tie for fifth, four shots behind leader Marcel Siem, of Germany, after day one.

Bland had reached five-under, before bogeys at 13 and 15 saw him slip back a bit.

However, the 37-year-old finished on a high, birdieing the last, to put him in early contention for a first ever European Tour win.
