Southampton’s Peter Waterfield claimed more medal success at the FINA Grand Prix in Germany yesterday.
Waterfield recently caused a shock when he beat teenager Tom Daley to win the British individual 10m platform title at Sheffield.
He followed that up by winning the silver medal in the men’s 10m Individual in Rostock after first beating Olympic Champion Matt Mitcham in his semi-final.
2004 Olympic silver medallist Waterfield went into the final with confidence and executed a number of excellent dives on his way to taking second place.
The final saw Waterfield once again finish above Mitcham (Australia) and also Olympic medallist Sascha Klein (Germany) after scoring a number of tens throughout the final.
Waterfield finished with a total of 510.20 to take his first international medal of the season.
“That was a good performance for me,” Waterfield said.
“I went into the competition feeling confident after the British National Cup earlier this month and I just wanted a repeat performance here.
“It had been a long weekend leading into the final but it all went to plan and I am pleased that after my injuries I am getting back to my best.
“I went into the final with the highest score from the semi-final which was great.”
The gold medal went to China’s Liang Huo with a score of 564.50 and bronze was won by Aisen Chen (China) with a total of 509.20 points.
Waterfield also took to the boards in the men’s 10m Synchro alongside Southampton partner Max Brick.
They secured fifth place with a consistent performance, finishing with a score of 409.02.
Waterfield was also in action in the men’s 3m Synchro with Chris Mears and they finished in 12th place with 258.12 points.
