FORMER Trojans star Rob Moore was part of the England side that produced a historic World Cup success yesterday.
The Winchester-born player, below, helped his country beat the tournament favourites Australia 3-2 in Delhi.
England had not beaten the Kookaburras since 1985 and the win was England’s first over Australia in a World Cup match since 1975. It was only England’s fifth victory in 52 matches between the two nations. Stars of England’s victory were Cannock keeper James Fair and goalscorers James Tindall and Ashley Jackson.
Cannock’s James Fair and goals from Surbiton forward James Tindall and set piece specialist Ashley Jackson.
Tindall’s second goal came after a shot from Moore, who also used to play for Hampshire club Havant, had hit the post.
At the other end, Australia had 28 shots on target but could only find a way past Fair on two occasions.
