SAINTS’ Wembley trip has created extra misery for grass-roots football officials in the wake of the worst winter weather for three decades.
The adult and youth Sunday leagues were decimated throughout December and January because of rain and frost.
Now another round of games has been drastically reduced in some cases and abandoned altogether in others because so many players are heading to Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.
And the new raft of postponements will mean the Southampton Tyro Youth League season will have to be extended by a month to nearly the end of May.
The Eastleigh & District Mini League has decided to postpone their entire fixture list despite the fact they have had to cancel all their cup competitions for the second year running because of the winter-weather created fixture chaos.
